NY Life Short Term Disability Team is Terrible

Reviewed by Dr. T on July 22nd 2025   Verified Policyholder | August 2024 date of disability
I am a physician and was in a high velocity rear impact car accident. The person slammed into my stopped car going almost 50mph. Was not physically or cognitively able to function for almost 3 months. The doctors caught on finally that not only did I have severe whiplash in my neck and spine, with multiple herniated, torn and ruptured discs, that I also had a traumatic brain injury. In addition, I suffered from debilitating vertigo which is what ultimately led them to test me for a concussion. NY Life approved my first 2 weeks of disability then denied the rest of my leave despite having my medical records sent and expert opinions from multiple physicians. They still will not give me a solid answer as to why they denied my claim as I was restricted to return to work only half time after 10 weeks, still in limbo as to when I can return full time since I am still in physical therapy, doing cognitive therapy and still can’t drive due to vertigo. A nurse reviewed my case, which is a joke as it seems she ignored all objective test results to arbitrarily decide that I was good enough to return to work 2 weeks after almost being killed. No one would return my calls and they claimed they did not receive paperwork from my spine doctor. Do not get NY Life.
