Question

Why is New York Life Insurance giving me a hard time?

Asked on January 29th 2025 by Holly
My son who is 22 years old and lives with me was diagnosed with Focal Epilepsy and tonic colonic seizures. He just had a seizure that almost took his life. He is now unable to drive, suffers from depression, memory loss, anxiety and anger. His neurologist completed all the forms explaining he can not drive to and from therapy and doctor appointments, he can not be left alone and is not allowed to work. Today NY Life called and said my son’s neurologist needs to list THREE things I need to do to take care of him since he is over the age of 18. It needs to be such as feeding, clothing and bathing him. My son is not physically handicap. The neurologist stated I need to be with him 24/7. I even have to keep a baby monitor in his room to watch him when he sleeps (that’s a lot) because he is high risk for SUDEP! Why is NY Life demanding THREE things? This is my son who needs me. Thank you.

Holly, the requirements of NYL depends on the type of policy that you are inquiring about. I would need to review the policy to understand why they are requesting 3 activities of daily living he cannot perform. Please see if you can get the policy governing this claim and then reach out to us for a free consultation. We will gladly review the policy and give you our thoughts.
