Question

Lumbar stenosis & radiculopathy disability. How do I proceed?

Asked on June 15th 2026 by Wyatt
I have had lumbar stenosis and herniated discs for quite a while, I am 60. I work as an aircraft painter, our long term disability is through Lincoln Financial. I have worked here since 2010 with 2 times leaving for a year each time. I had a laminectomy in 2016 L4L5 , it was failed back surgery. I have radiculopathy in my legs with my left side excruciating pain. My second surgery(Jan 2026) was a microdiscectomy that has seemed to fix the right side pain. I still have neuropathy in both feet with the majority of my right foot numb all day and night. Painting aircrafts is very labor intensive, a lot of bending, crouching, standing reaching, climbing etc. I can not stand for any length of time and climbing ladders is tough enough because it hurts but with numb feet I feel like I am going to fall. I am 100 % P&T disabled from the USAF. I am trying my best to keep working as I need the income but it has become very difficult. I have many doctors appointments and miss quite a bit of work from pain. I don't know how to proceed. How to file long term with them, long term SSDI. Your help would be appreciated. I live in Alabama.

The best place to start to determine your options with filing for disability would be with getting copies of your short and long term disability policies with Lincoln. If you do have copies of those that you can provide to our office we will review and schedule a free consultation to discuss how your policies work and the procedures set forth to start claims as well as the applicable plan definitions. Please feel free to contact our office to discuss.
