Question

Will Lincoln Financial Really Pay My Disability Benefits Through 2033?

Asked on March 19th 2026 by Rosemarie
According to Lincoln Financial, I am entitled to benefits through 2033. I have been told by my claims manager that as long as my medical documentation continues to show that my condition hasn’t changed that they will continue to pay until that date. I am coming up on two years in June 2026. Should I be worried?

In 2024 I had three major surgeries, two spinal fusions end of brain surgery due to aneurysms. I was put onto long-term disability following the second spinal fusion as I suffered many cognitive changes as well as physical in abilities and massive pain. I have a history of fall, weakness in both arms and hands, severe muscle spasms down the back of my legs, etc.

At the 24-month mark the definition of total disability typically changes from inability to perform your “own occupation” to inability to perform “any gainful occupation.” The carrier will investigate whether you meet this new standard/definition. If so, they will continue monthly benefits. If not, they may deny further benefits and provide you an opportunity to file an appeal.
