Unum

Unum has been consistently lying to me. At least I'm not the only one.

In March 2014 I slipped on the ice and fell flat on my back and my head snapped back causing a huge and the back of my head. I laid on the sidewalk for about five minutes. I work at a hospital as a nurse so I continued to work and had one of the doctors check me out. She told me to monitor for symptoms of a head injury. A couple of weeks later I started having right shoulder pain. The symptoms started to include neck shoulder and right arm pain. When I would start to keyboard the symptoms would explode and the pain became absolutely horrible. I kept trying to work but because of the pain I missed a lot of work. I finally had to stop working in September. I filed a claim with Unum for short-term disability. Finally three months later in December I received a check including back pay. Next began the circus of trying to get long-term disability. I mailed the requested forms to them. They said they never received them. I then faxed the forms to them. They said they never received them. I talked to my contact person at Unum today. She said they received 800 pages from my employer but it did not cover any recent medical information. I called my employer and spoke to a medical records supervisor. She said they had sent 1200 pages and then 800 pages from my medical record. What I found out is that Unum has been consistently lying to me and seeing very negative things about my place of employment. She said my company is very difficult to work with. After speaking with medical records, I set up a time to meet with the supervisor tomorrow. She said they’ve been having many problems with Unum. She in fact was meeting with my company’s attorneys today to discuss the issues they are having with Unum. At this point I haven’t received any money from Unum for three months. I have exhausted all my resources. I am facing eviction and shutting down of my gas and electricity. I have $.75 to my name. I absolutely loved my job and did not want to leave. I cry myself to sleep every night because I’m so scared. I am a widow so I do not have a husband to help support me I also have a daughter who is in school that I am supporting. Unum had no problem taking my payments. So today I decided to Google Unum and I found your website. I was shocked to read all the stories that are much like mine. I have worked for the hospital for 16 years. Why they ever decided to change to Unum 2014 is beyond me. My situation is extremely complicated so I will close by saying at least I’m not the only one.
