Unum

Unum demanded to see all information on my checking account to monitor if I'm getting extra income. Seems illegal to me

Due to a lung disease I am not able to work at a chemical plant that I worked for for 18 years, I am on long term disability from (unum). It started in july 2015, it is now february 2016, they sent me a letter that states that they want all information on my checking account so that they can monitor it to see if I am getting extra income. I am having to file for social security which I have been denied, it is in the hearing stage. They claim if I don’t sign the paperwork they will make a deduction of what they think I will get in social security the also with paperwork want me to sign that I will not seek any legalities now or in future against them. I have not signed the paperwork, it seems to me it teeters on illegal side.

Betina, I have never seen where Unum demands access to view a checking account to look for sources of other income. Though you do need to provide proof of your SSDI claim being active (at hearing stage as you state).
