Hartford

They cut my husband off without telling him. I can't believe our government allows this company to continue with their fraud

It is a crying shame that Hartford is still in business. My husband has Parkinson’s and was on long term disability under Hartford. They paid him for 3 years before they dropped him. They had a private investigator follow and film him, they screwed up his paperwork with his Neurologist and said he doctor wouldn’t respond. They had one of there doctors say he was able to work. They brought video for him to watch and intimidated him to the point he could barely function. They cancelled his insurance and didn’t notify him – he had to find out when he went to his doctor and was told he was no longer insured. His Neurologist are furious as he can barely function. My biggest mistake was not contacting an attorney right away. My husband was so upset he said to forget it as he was convinced we wouldn’t win against them. When I finally called an attorney, he said our time had expired to submit an appeal. He said it was a real shame since our case would have been a slam dunk. I think there should be a way to sue for wrongful termination of benefits. This is so awful and I cannot believe that our government allows this company to continue with their fraudulent actions.

Cheryl, although ERISA only provides 180 days to file an appeal it would still be to your advantage to submit an appeal at this point. There does stand a chance Hartford would accept and review the appeal. If they do accept it and deny it for medical reasons it could open the possibility of another appeal or preserve rights to bring suit.
