Hartford

Truly Horrible and Immoral Company with No Customer Service

My experiences with Hartford have been nothing short of cruel. They started off by claiming that having Glioblastoma, which has an expected life span of about fifteen months, didn't qualify me for long-term disability, even though it is on the Social Security Administration's Compassionate Allowances list! After fighting with them (while undergoing surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy), they finally approved it--or so I thought. Since that time, I have had nothing but "representatives" who won't return my calls, lost paperwork, demands that since I'm still alive, I need to return to my previous job as a high school teacher (despite seizures and aphasia). Like I said, a company that is so greedy that it borders on cruelty! I managed to find a job at the public library where I could work 10 hours a week making minimum wage, which I did for a little more than a year before I could no longer handle it. All of this was reported, and all paycheck stubs were sent to The Hartford. A few days ago, I received a call stating that since I had worked for more than a year, they should have used a different formula for my payments, and that I now owe them almost $600! I was going to contact the benefits manager at my pre-disability job to complain about my treatment, but then I saw that my employer had already switched to a more reputable company for its STD and LTD optional insurance. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COST!
