Hartford is a joke. Their favorite word is "denied'

Wow! After reading the above I know now why I have been denied Short Term disability. I’ve paid for Short Term for 24 years and I was put on leave by my physician after working in a hostile work environment for 2 years with severe anxiety, depression and stress. My blood pressure was extremely high. I made an account on line to follow the claim status. Like the above statements, they put on the website that they tried to contact both my physician and me on the website details of the claim but did not. I called in to them to see if they needed anything and they stated my physician never filled out the paperwork sent. My physician never received paperwork from them and I had them fax said paperwork while I was at the physicians office. She filled out the paperwork and faxed back. The paperwork had misleading questions on them. Like could I do my job. Well yes, I can do my job in a non hostile environment when my blood pressure became in normal range. So they denied my short term. I will have to return to the hostile work environment on 7/1/2019. Pay back any STD benefits paid along with benefits paid by my employer. I have decided to walk out if I am subjected to the same treatment. Hartford is a joke. They lie, no contact, no one answers your calls or calls you back and the paperwork they send to physicians is misleading. At least it’s short term and not long term and it’s only been 6 weeks. I am just glad I didn’t have the heart attack I was on the road to have. Bottom line is Hartford’s favorite word is denied. I’ll appeal the decision however I don’t know if the added stress is worth it especially since reading the comments above.

Judi, the insurance industry thrives on using information contained in claim forms to deny a claim. That is why it is so important to complete them in a way to avoid their traps. In your situation it appears that your claim was denied based upon the ability to perform your job in the “national economy.” Most policies will indicate that “regular occupation” is defined to mean the job you perform as it is commonly performed in the national economy and not for a specific employer or at a specific location. If your claim forms indicated you could do your job, just not for your specific employer, then Hartford would use that to say that you can perform the duties of your job as defined by the policy. In appealing the decision it would be incredibly important for your doctor to argue and stress that during the time you were out that he/she believes you could not perform your job duties at all, for any employer. Additionally, if you have been the victim of a hostile work environment you could contact an employment attorney to discuss if you have any rights or causes of action against your employer.
