Question

Why does Hartford want my bank records?

Asked on July 25th 2018 by Bruce
I was on STD with the Hartford through my employer for 6 months and went on LTD in Feb. due to a aneurysm on my ascending aorta and a 5-10 pound weight restriction. The Hartford approved my LTD in Feb. and I was told I had to apply for SS Disability and sign papers saying I would pay them back when I got approved for SS Disability. They changed my claim specialist and in May she called and said she had faxed papers to my doctor and had not heard anything back so I emailed my doctors nurse and was told they had not received anything so she gave me her work email address and said to have them send it there. This was not first time they could not get a fax to my doctor. In June my claim specialist called (conversation was recorded by Hartford) and said she contacted my doctor and he still concurred with his statement from Feb. and they said I was no longer disabled and terminated my LTD. LTD was approved in Feb and terminated in June on same information, does not make sense so I appealed it. I was sent a authorization to obtain information form to sign giving them permission to any and all medical records, insurance coverage and claims filed, bank records, work and performance information history, academic transcripts and any and all information concerning SS benefits. Why do they need bank and other information like this so I did not sign and return it. I have no problem with them getting medical information. I think it is a shame that when a person is having medical problems they have to go through this just because a disability company wants to keep the money in their pockets.

Bruce, I am very sorry to hear of the troubles you are having with your claim for benefits with Hartford. They are really playing games with you and that is very unfortunate. Please contact me as soon as possible so that we can give you a free consultation. Perhaps we can assist you. Also, always remember that while Hartford may state that they will get the medical records it is your duty to “prove” your claim. Thus it is ultimately your responsibility to submit your medical records.
