Unum terminated my benefits with no warning

Reviewed by K. Potter on September 9th 2020   Verified Policyholder
I was told I was covered with Unum through my employer (continuum). I got an email today for my termination, no prior talks of infractions with attendance, no warnings, no written warning, straight to termination. I live in Idaho. I have a very well documented medical history of back problems including a herniated disc that is affecting me as we speak and was what prompted me to ask about coverage for things of this nature.

K. Potter, termination as in your employment was terminated or a disability claim was terminated? If your employment was terminated and you had not filed a claim for disability then there is a strong argument to be made by Unum that you have no disability coverage as of the date of termination and the fact no claim was filed. If your employer terminated you after you inquired about coverage and/or had knowledge of your medical conditions impacting your work I would recommend you contact an employment attorney for clarification as to your legal rights.
