My company provided short and long term disabilty to its employees through UNUM. I got a tumor in my leg causing so much pain I was unable to work until I went through diagnosis and eventully surgery. This took about 4 months. I applied for 90 day short term diablity which would have covered 75% of my wage after using all of my vacation an sick leave. Unum makes it impossible to communcate with them. No emails and no one answers the phone. Then if they call you back and you are not home you start all over again. I was having difficulty providing information to them because of both slow Dr responses and no direct communication with unum so they simply denied my claim. Insurance companies like UNUM are in the business of denying claims and maximizing profits. UNUM appears to be excellent at this. I am just starting my appeal and have a documented timeline proving that the refuse to commincate and prevent anyone from being able to. No emails, no faxes, no physical address an therfore no paper trail to prove their criminal operation.

Concerned, your policy allows Unum to offset your benefit by sources of “Other Income” of which SSDI is the number one source of Other Income. Should you choose not to apply for SSDI, Unum can offset your benefit by an estimated amount you would be expected to receive from SSDI. You do not have to use GenX and can file for SSDI on your own or hire your own SSDI attorney.
