Unum

They don’t return your calls. And when they do they try to trick you into making a false statement.

I have a claim with UNUM it went from short term disability to long term disability. Everything was finally approved and I began receiving my checks monthly. After the new year I was told the needed to get updated forms so they could still access my medical records. Thi was signed and sent in immediately. Few days later I get a call they are filled out incorrectly. I explained they were filled same way last set were accepted were done. No you need to fill in all this additional info. So I asked who filled it in on the other authorization forms. I resend the forms this time they are great. Now I it’s May 2016 I get a call from My Claims specialist who said the doctors are not sending in my records. They have no tecords on me since the new year how do they know I’m still disabled. I called all their offices no one ever received a form. Called few weeks later they had received the form and would fill out and send back. I even called my Claims Specsilist a week before end of Msy to see if she got everything she needed. If not I’d make calls to see where info was , and that she gets it on time. She never calls me back I assume she’s got what she needs. June 3rd 2016. They didn’t get all their info and will have to close my claim. Not to mention one of my doctors said its Michaels to go back to work assp. Maybe available for part time work in the future. So I am told anytime a doctor says you can work part time claim closes. Again he stated I wanted to go back to work. Maybe part time in the future. Not to mention most all policies have it if you work part time your benefits is just reduced to keep you in the same lifestyle. Not me I’m told were done case closed. People at UNUM don’t do their jobs and evidently can’t read either. They don’t return your calls. And when they do they try to trick you into making a false statement. I thought better of a company in this line of work. I guess it’s true all they care about is our money, and don’t care that we have a serious health problem. Even my own physician said no way I should be tired down he was dumbfounded .

Michael, Unum policies typically state the benefit will end when it is determined you are capable of part time work but do not pursue same. It is not too often that they deny a claim based on that provision. Have you appealed the denial? Please feel free to contact our office to discuss how we may be able to assist you.
