Question

Unum reduced my benefits

Asked on October 17th 2023 by tom
Unum reduced my benefits from 2500/month to 773/month because they said I was entitled to ssd. I sent denial letter to them and they refused this has been going on since 11/21 at the same time they had a data breach. I purchased ltd plan thru payroll deductions. Now they are saying I was overpayed and want repayment. There actions are controversial. Do I have a claim? Respectfully, Chris

I am sorry to hear how Unum is treating your claim. Typically, if you provide proof of your claim for SSDI benefits and show the current status of your claim and that you are still appealing for such benefits, then the policy governing your claim will force Unum to stop withholding the estimated SSDI offset from your benefit. If you have given them up-to-date proof that your appeal has been filed to challenge the SSDI denial, then request in writing which provision of the LTD policy they are relying upon to continue offsetting the estimated SSDI benefit. Once you get their response in writing, please feel free to reach out to us and we will gladly assess your claim and see if there is anything we can do to assist you in getting this estimated offset removed.
