Question

I have Unum disability insurance and they are asking me to speak with them on the phone before I even submit my application. Do I need to speak with them?

If you have not submitted your application as of yet, then it depends if your disability policy requires you to speak with them. If you tell them you have a lawyer assisting you then they will not speak to you unless your lawyer is on the phone. It is usually not a good idea to speak with them as you could say something on a recorded call that could jeopardize your claim. I know that Unum always tries to do a recorded call with an applicant within days of receiving a request for a long term disability application. You should be prepared prior to speaking with Unum and know the implications of everything you say. I am happy to review your disability policy and provide a free phone consultation.
