Question

Is there a way I can get out of allowing Genex and Unum to contact SS?

Asked on November 2nd 2017 by Connie
I have been on SSD and Unum LTD since 2008. I recently received a letter from Genex stating that they have partnered with Unum to conduct a routine review of my Social Security benefits. SS has never requested any addition information from me since they awarded me disability. The list of items that Genex wants me to allow them to ask SS for is to long to list. (33 items ) I have not signed it or sent it back to them. I feel they are just trying to cause issues with my SSD. Unum offered me a buy out in Feb. 2014 which I declined so I figured they would harass me as much as possible but going after my SSD is a low blow. Is there a way I can get out of allowing Genex to contact SS?

Connie, I do not think you would have any affirmative duty to use Genex for anything. If Unum requests information regarding your SSDI claim then I would suggest you obtain that information on your own. The only thing I think Unum would be looking for is to make sure they are applying the correct SSDI offset to your benefit.
