Question

How do I show Unum a C-section has a standard 8 week (not 6 week) recovery?

Asked on September 11th 2017 by Rita
I was out for disability 3 weeks prior to delivery due to tough pregnancy. I had a c-section and was out for 8 weeks. UNUM paid my claim but only for 6 weeks (14 days not paid and then 4 weeks paid). How do I show them you have disability for 8 weeks when you have c-section. My physician has progress notes but nothing stating that I have to be out for 8 weeks, because it is just standard for 8 weeks for recovery with the doctor. Also, since my physician pulled me out of work 3 weeks prior delivery, isn’t that also covered by UNUM?

Rita, you will need to appeal the decision and get additional medical support from your doctor as to the need for the full 8 weeks following the c-section.
