Question

63 year old RN

Asked on December 18th 2024 by Tampa RN
I was working full time up until I had shingles which I ended up with multiple surgeries and skin grafts for lesions on my neck. In addition during this time I’ve had multiple joint replacements. I see many drs regularly including psych for anxiety and depression. I have multiple autoimmune disorders including Lupus since prior to disabling event. I’m on permanent SSDI as Lupus is automatically a permanent qualifying event. UNUM now requesting a full review. I thought once SSDI determined I had a qualifying for life event UNUM had to payout as well for the life of the policy (which I assume is to age 65/I am 63).

I am not physically nor mentally capable of returning to work in a hospital in any capacity. Am I in error thinking that I should have to go through this appeal with Unum again?

Unfortunately Unum doesn't consider SSDI approval as proof that you are disabled. Yes, it is normal for Unum to do another review. If you need assistance with an appeal please reach out to us at 888-729-3355.
