Phi violation
Hartford disability opened a disability case without my consent. I received multiple deposits to my bank account in the amount of over 4,000. After multiple phone calls they are calling it an overpayment and is asking for the money back. I’m very concerned how this happened, how they have my banking information, SSN and my PHI. What are my rights?

Jen, I’m not sure how they would have your information but in some cases an employer will submit a claim on behalf of an employee. You should check with your HR department to see if they submitted a claim. One possibility is that you have a self-funded salary continuation STD plan, in which case you are paid just like you would normally receive your salary because the funds come from your employer who likely has all the necessary direct deposit information.
