Question

Lifetime disability policy with Hartford

Asked on January 30th 2024 by Deb
Original policy was lifetime. At some point after policy was in force for my disability I realized it was no longer lifetime policy but a long term disability policy. They argue it was always a long term policy but I had verified it to be a lifetime policy on 3 occasions. They denied ever having lifetime policies until 1 employee, Mr Jones, told me that had those policies but no longer available.

Deb,

Thank you for your question about a Hartford lifetime disability policy. In order to support your position you would need to have a copy of a disability policy that says lifetime benefits and you must have been disabled when this Hartford policy was in force. If you became disabled after Hartford eliminated the lifetime disability, then you would not be eligible for lifetime disability benefits. You should ask Hartford for a copy of the disability policy that was in force on the date you became disabled.
