Question

Disability company dropped my monthly benefits

Asked on February 29th 2024 by Sharon
I’ve been receiving long-term disability from Equitable/Hartford since 2021. My medical condition has been upper extremity skeletal pain resulting in three surgeries. Equitable is not disputing my disability medically, but due to an unsuccessful work attempt after surgery approximately three months I made, more than 80% in contract work. After a 3 mth trying to I was not able to work full-time and stopped working. It’s my understanding that my earnings during that period of time were too high and they want me to pay back since February 2022 equating to $190,000 hence dropping the policy that would’ve paid monthly premiums until the age of 67 in four more years. I have filed for disability with Social Security, and in the reconsideration phase. What can I do?

Since you went back to work full time you would not qualify for further benefits. You could file a new claim if you are still working for the same employer. If not then you would have no recourse.
