Prudential is the most dishonest and immoral company ever! My husband has been on LTD with them for a few years. In December they sent a letter asking for $11,000 back. He had been received his disability based on 60% of his gross wages. Now they say it should be box 5 of the W-2. Box 5 deducted for voluntary health, dental, vision insurances. NOWHERE in the policy does it state that box 5 is used. It states 60% of monthly earnings. I have appealed and was denied. I am going to appeal again. I have worked in payroll – gross wages means the total earned before any deductions. It seems to be discriminatory to deduct for your voluntary insurances. How can a company sell a policy saying 60% of monthly earnings. If a family of four with family insurances and a single person of one with single insurance rates (health, dental, vision) were to make claims – they would get disproportionate amounts of disability income. At my wits end.
