Question

What can I do about my long term benefits that’s ending after 2 years?

Asked on June 6th 2023 by Mimi
I had a total thyroidectomy 2 years ago which affected my vocal cords. I have been doing doing speech therapy. Prudential informed me that my benefits will end in September which will be 2 years. They have a vocational consultant working with me to get me back to work. My speech therapist informed them that I can only speak about 15 minutes at times due to spasms and other issues. I’m a nurse. What should I do?

Prudential is likely telling you that they will stop paying you in September because they either think you should be better or your definition of disability will be changing and they think you can do a different occupation. The reality is that Prudential evaluates your eligibility every month and they may try to deny you sooner. We would want to review medical records and see how they are being documented to support disability. We would want to know how long can you actually talk during a day. What happens once you start getting spasms and then can’t talk without pain? It seems you may not be able to do any job if it requires talking. If you give us a call we can review your policy and discuss how we may be able to assist you to avoid a denial.
