Question

How Does Guardian Calcualutate my Long Term Disability Benefit?

Asked on June 29th 2020 by Christopher D.
I completed 13 weeks of short term disability and my income was approved at 134,000 annually. After 13 weeks it was submitted to long term disability and approved at 54,000 annually. The short term and long term income guidelines read exactly the same but each case manager is calculating different figures. Long term is approved at $2713 but should be capped at $5000. I’m getting nowhere and seeking advice.

Christopher, you should request a detailed explanation and calculation of your long-term disability benefit from The Guardian. They are required to explain to you how they are arriving at their calculation of your monthly disability benefit. You should also find out if they are applying any offsets to your monthly benefit such as social security disability or salary continuation. If you continue to have issues please call us to speak with one of our disability attorneys.
