Is it legal for Cigna to requent my tax returns as a condition of profit or loss?

I have been disabled since 1994. In December of 2010 I was offered a buyout and refused because I thought it would effect my Social Security. After I refused the buyout I received a letter from Cigna requesting copies of all my tax returns for ten years and copies of income statements. I did send them my copies of social security and my long term disability W2, but they wanted my tax returns. My husband refuses to give them his information and I agree that insurance companies should not have the right to ask for tax information. Hence, I have not received a check from Cigna since May of 2011. Is it legal for them to request my tax returns?

T, It is legal for them to request your tax returns as a condition of profit of loss. You can cross out all information related to your husband.

I was not able to work as a physician for about 14 months due to neck/back issues. Even though I had 3 medical doctors explicitly state that I was not to work AT ALL as a physician at that time, New York Life (NYL) Disability Insurance denied my long term disability claim (which apparently they deny a high percentage of people similar to me- only they know why they do this to so many- I have my own suspicions). I was in pain from my medical issues and so frustrated with NYL considering I had many bills coming due. I then decided to call Dell Disability Lawyers. Long story short, within a few months of me returning back to work, he was able to persuade NYL to pay me my long term disability claim.
