Question

Do you do arbitration for short term disability denials?

Asked on August 4th 2025 by Brad
Yes, my husband was denied short term disability without release from doctor as the disability insurance reviewed the paperwork and deemed he could return to work. When in fact there was a complication and another surgery was needed. Time off work Dec. 2024 - May 2025 paid for 4 weeks. Policy covers 100% up to 6 months.

Arbitration for a short term disability denial is very unusual. If it’s required, it would be because the short term disability policy is funded by the employer. If the employer funds the plan, which means they pay short term benefits, then they may have drafted an arbitration requirement.
