Question
I want to have a lawyer represent me with my application for disability benefits but I am wondering if this could be a disadvantage for me in getting approved?
Answer
Your question is a great one and something that I have been asked many times by potential clients. I am certainly biased in answering this question but I want you to understand why disability insurance companies prefer you to have a lawyer. The first reason is that a disability insurance claims person can deal with a lawyer in a business to business relationship with our law firm rather than a business to consumer relationship. This means that things can get done without any insurance company delay tactics and in prompt professional manner. The disability insurance company will not even bother playing games as they know that it won’t get them anywhere. We have a good working relationship with all of the disability insurance companies and they know that our goal is to get them all of the information they need in order to properly review the claim. The disability companies understand that claimants are dealing with disabling medical conditions and that dealing with the application process can be very stressful and further aggravate some claimants medical conditions.
Most claimants have never been through the disability application process and it's normal for them to look for a lawyer to help. The disability insurance claims people have company lawyers that advise them and answer questions for any issues and they think it’s appropriate for a claimant to have a lawyer. Having a lawyer also limits the claimant’s interaction with the disability insurance company and allows the claimant to focus on their medical treatment. Disability companies know that when a lawyer is involved all communications must go through the lawyer and claimants don’t have to worry about random phone calls or letters seeking additional information. Lastly, everything you either tell or give to a disability company can be critical in your application for disability benefits. You need to know the impact of everything related to your claim, and whether it’s thousands or millions of dollars in disability benefits at stake, it's expected for you to have a disability insurance lawyer. If I can answer any more of your questions or if you would like to discuss your long term disability claim, then please contact me for a free phone consultation.
